How to Restore Associate File Type Associations to Default (To Unknown Application)

 

    This problem happen when you accidentally select and open file from "An Unknown Application" to "Specific Application", even you "checked" the "Always use this app to open .xxx files", then want this file restore to default (Unknown application).

All you need to do is :

1.    Create temporary file with extension .xxx

       a.    Open Notepad++ (Notepad) application (Blank page), file Save As.

       b.    Select destination where temporary file would be create (Desktop).

       c.    Create file name "temporary.xxx", .xxx as the extension.

       d.    Save as type :  Select All types (*.*) and Save it.

2.    Select temporary.xxx as default application to open with.

3.    Delete temporary.xxx file

5.    Now your file has been restored to the default (Unknown application).
